The 11th U.P. Global Health Course

We invite you to this six-day course on global health issues. It is intended for students of
dentistry, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, public health, physical therapy,
speech pathology, veterinary medicine and other health sciences in the Philippines.
The course intends to broaden the participants' awareness of the many dynamic factors that
affect health. It also aims to introduce the participants to effective, wholistic & empowering
health and development programs that seek to address various issues confronting society. It
is envisioned as a way to deepen the participants' understanding of health,
thus preparing them to become more effective health professionals.

* Socio Economic-Political (Neoliberal) Framework and How it Affects People’s Health
* Social Determinants of Health
* Primary Health Care
* Rights-Based Approach to Development
* Health Financing/ Privatization of Health Services

* Gender and Reproductive Health Rights
* Access to Essential Medicine
* Climate Change
* Transformative Health Education
* Migration of Health Human Resources
* Health and Human Rights
* Social Mobilization and Community-Based Health Programs
* Health as a Catalyst for Social Change
The course will be conducted in English and Filipino. The use of various learning
methodologies, with emphasis on participatory & evocative learning activities, is a key
feature of the UP-GHC.
